What it is
A post and core restoration is used to rebuild a structurally compromised, root-canal-treated tooth and provide a stable foundation for a definitive crown. The post extends into the prepared root canal to provide retention for the core, while the core reconstructs the missing coronal tooth structure and supports the final restoration. A properly designed post and core helps restore the tooth's form and provides an appropriate foundation for achieving accurate crown fit, function and aesthetics.
